The Event – Trio 2018 Exhibit

Wednesday, January 24th, I attended a book event at the Book Exchange in Marietta titled Trio 2018.  This was one of the most spectacular, emotional, talent laden events I have ever attended. I was so moved by the talent at this event I have decided the Featured Artist is going to be everyone involved in the 2018 Trio Exhibit.

On my way to this book event I knew it was going to be different than the others Book Exchange has held. For instance, I knew there were going to be 8 to 12 authors presenting their book, a song about each book, and a work of art inspired by the book. I envisioned this event to be much like the others, only more authors, each with a song and painting. Even though on paper I’m spot on, my dispassionate attitude toward the entire evening left me completely embarrassed at myself. I could not have been any more ill prepared.

The occasions where I have attended Book Exchange after hours book events, there are usually about 15 to 25 in attendance, and  anywhere from 1 to 4 presenting authors. The event would last from an hour and a half to two hours, depending on the number of author’s presenting.

The Attendance

I left the venue at 9:30 pm with several attendees still chatting with the artist.

In my opinion Trio 2018 is the complete experience. To help explain Trio I’ve gone to Shari Smith’s web page (the brain child behind Trio), and SIBA’s web page (the sponsor) to help me.

What is Trio?Image of Trio Logo

It’s a traveling exhibit of art, music and literature that celebrates the inspirational power of great storytelling. First conceived by Shari Smith of Working Title Farm, and a writer and singer for “The Shoe Burnin’ Show,” TRIO is a testament to the way words, music and art can come together around the power of a single story. Each TRIO starts with a book, which is given to a musician and a visual artist, who then write a song, a piece of music, a work of art inspired by the story.

The 2018 TRIO exhibit debuted September 15 at the SIBA Discovery Show in New Orleans, LA, and then travels around the South for the next twelve months, hosted by and sponsored by SIBA member bookstores. The 2017 TRIO exhibit finished its tour September 3 at The Decatur Book Festival. Learn more about the 2017 books, songwriters, and visual artists here.

I ask you to please spend a lot to time on the websites I’ve shared with you in this article. If you get the chance to attend a Trio Exhibit, please do yourself a favor, bring a pen and paper, bring a camera, and tissues.  You’ll want to take notes, take pictures, and, yes, it’s very emotional.
